Messmore Delivers College Distinguished Lecture

Thomas Messmore, a 1967 industrial engineering graduate and a member of the WVU Foundation Board of Directors, delivered a College Distinguished Lecture on Thursday, February 8.

Messmore spoke on the topic of, "Five Essentials to Learn in Engineering School."

As a WVU student, Messmore was a member of Mountain, Tau Beta Pi, Alpha Pi Mu and Phi Kappa Psi, and he was active in student government. After graduating from WVU in 1967, he attended Harvard, receiving his MBA in 1969. During his career, he has held management and executive positions with various companies, including State Street Bank and Trust Company, Interactive Data Corporation, Keystone Massachusetts Group, Travelers Insurance Co., UBS Asset Management, and Zurich Insurance Group.

He currently is the owner of T.E. Messmore Associates, an analytical consulting firm that focuses on risk and investment management. In retirement, he is developing a computer language called CONCISE, which facilitates financial modeling, statistical analysis and simulation.

Messmore is a devoted alumnus of the University. He currently serves on the WVU Foundation Board, and he has committed to funding a scholarship for the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering.
